Promoted - Cadet Coperal

Monday, June 23, 2008

22 June 2008 - Today is a historical day for me because it was the annual St John Day. The St John Day highlights the cadet 1st year oath taking, prize giving and the promotion for active and commited members. I woke up early and arrived at headquarters around 7.10am. My friends who applied for promotion were with me too. We received a letter from headquarters that our application for promotion was approved a week ago. Around 8.30am, we were instructed into the hall and have our seat. There was many people who attended this meaningful event. The VIPs invited were the area commander, Dr Michael Y.L. Cheong and the founder of St John Ambulance in SMI, Mr Ng Khoon Hong. I was promoted to Cadet Corporal whereas some of my friends received their certificates of appreciation and certificates of 100 duty hours + service shield. The results of the St John Day for my fellow friends were as belows:
Cheah Wai Hoong - promoted from Adult Corporal to Adult Sergeant
Looi Hong Wei - promoted from Adult Lance Corporal to Adult Corporal
Fong Teik Sum - promoted from Cadet Private to Cadet Corporal & received certificate of 100 duty hours + service shield

Starwalk 2008

Monday, June 16, 2008

15 June 2008 - I woke up at 5.30am today and reached Stadium Perak an hour later because it was the starwalk event for this year. I went with my friends, Donivald Tham, Tan Sze Ngau and many more. Donivald is the hero who keep on bugging me to 'run la, run la' during the walk. Honestly, I did not take any shortcuts or run for the entire journey (to the west LOL) like Alex Morris.. Haiz! We managed to get the certificate when we reached the ending point with just 2 minutes and 30 seconds left before we get nothing home...

NCO Camp 2008

Saturday, May 31, 2008

26 - 29 May 2008 - The St John Ambulance of St Michael's Institution, Ipoh organized a 4 days 3 nights NCO Camp from 26th to 29th May 2008. It was held in the school compound of this school. The camp was an annual tradition and it turned up successfully this year (except for more trouble from the EXCOs). Around 20 members attended the camp and they were divided into 4 groups, namely Bahamut, Zeus, Phoenix and Shiva. The campers were highly spirited and most of them hold on till the last minute. The organizing commitee was headed by the camp chief, A/SGT Wong Joe Hang. The main purpose of this camp is to foster a healthy relationship between members, to promote a high level of discipline and mannerism among members, to increase the standard of first aid knowledge, marching skills and to make members more independent and respectful towards others. The camp was also attended by a headquarters officer, Mr Ng Meng Kong. He injected more first aid knowledge and corrected the mistakes of the members. I would like to thank Mr Andrew Sean Lim, our former storekeeper for SMI St John, who guided us and gave us ample of advices. Thank You!

A Crowning Ceremony !

Sunday, April 6, 2008

5 April 2008 - Today is the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for my school's St John Ambulance. The AGM starts at 8.00am but i woke up early in the morning because this would be the last meeting for me as a member. The day before AGM I was told by the previous Head Of Operation that i will be selected for a post in the AGM. The AGM is about the activities or functions held during the term 2007/2008. The climax of the meeting is 'handover'. That means the current board of exco will pass their post to the next list of exco who were in form 4. First, the AGM started with the Minutes Of Previous AGM, followed by report from Storekeeper, Treasurer, Secretary of Report, Secretary of Duty, Head of Training, Head of Operation and teacher advisor. Then the AGM has a pormotion for the form 3 members who were active. C/Pvt Tham Kam Loy and C/Pvt Teoh Jia Heng were promoted to C/L/CPL. Finally it was the handover time. Storekeeper A/L/CPL Yang Jin Wei passed his post to his succesor C/Pvt Lim Kin Ho. A round of applause could be heard from the members. Next it was the treasurer's time, A/L/CPL Alexander Leo Morris said that the job of the treasurer is not easy. One need to manage accounts and reports for any expenses of profits. Finally, he passed his post to his succesor A/Pvt Chen Chee Zheon. Later on, A/SGT H'ng Yee Kheng stated that there will be a new post for this year that is the Assistant Secretary post. He turn us into confusion as who will be the one taking this special post? Without wasting much time, he announce the person who will be getting this post that is C/Pvt Wong Yoong Xiang. Then, it was the Secretary of Duty's time, A/CPL Lee Kam Wah said that the job of SOD is quite challenging because one needs to receive duty from officer the day before the duty. So it was very little time to inform members about the duty. Finally, he passed his post to his succesor C/L/CPL Fong Teik Sum. It was another round of applause from the members and the exco. Later, it was the Secretary of Report's time. A/CPL Lingeshrao stated that being a secretary is not easy because he is the person who done most of the filing and letters work. He also advice the next person who will be taking his post be serious all the time. Finally, he passed his post to his succesor C/Pvt Tan Tek Ming, that was me myself. Next it was the Head of Training's time, A/SGT Looi Hong Wei said that being linear to the members does not work out because the members have no respect for the exco and the current cadet team who did not qualified to state-level competition proves that his method of handling the members is wrong. He urged that the next HOT must not be like him. Without saying much, he passed his post to his succesor C/Pvt Wong Joe Hang. Finally, it was the Head of Operation's time. A/SGT H'ng Yee Kheng said that the job of a HOO is a very difficult task and one must be excellent in handling situation. HOO can be said as the president of the uniform unit and must take care of the welfare of the members and the exco. After that, he passed his post to his succesor C/Pvt Kisor. Later on, it was the short speech from the new HOT and HOO. C/SGT Kisor thanks the teacher advisor, exco, and members for their trust. He also said that he will not betrayed their trust by doing the job as a Head of Operation the right way. After that, C/SGT Wong walk out from the hall and call for fall-in. C/SGT Kisor stated that the time is 12.20 and the members are divided into 4 groups to walk across the Ipoh Padang and to take their lunch at Momo Cafe, that is opposite our school. All the members had a fun time enjoying the delicious Black Pepper Chicken Chop and Mushroom Sauce Checken Chop. After the lunch, all the members walked back to the school. By 1.40, C/SGT Wong dismissed the members. It was another year of glory of St John Ambulance of St Michael's Institution's Annual General Meeting.

Broken Dreams

Monday, March 17, 2008

16 March 2008 - It was the second day for the annual First Aid and Marching Competition, since yesterday is marching competition, so today is Long and Short Case Competition. During short case, our team were blurred as the case has two casualty. Normally for a short case there will be one casualty only. Our team was not very good as the time was flying during the competition. We do not have enough time to think and react properly. At 11.50, the results were out and we, the SMI Cadet Team was unable to qualify to state level competition. Poi Lam Division managed to get 3 golds ( Marching, Long Case, Short Case), Pei Yuan, Kampar managed to get 3 bronze and SMJK Yuk Choy managed to get 2 Silver. For SMI, the adult team get nothing but Lee Kam Wah managed to get Highest Individual and our team only grabbed silver for marching and wipe out all the 3 Highest Individual. It was considered as the worst year for SMI St. John. We, the Cadet Team disappointed our trainer, Looi Hong Wei and all our supporters. Our journey ends here......
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A short message from Donivald Tham, current no. 1 :
As your all know, we were not able 2 enter state level in the competition... we're truly sorry to disappoint you all who supported and guided us this far... especially our trainer, Looi hong wei... We're truly grateful for what you've done to help us... You sacrificed your time to train and guide us during school days and holidays... But what i can do to show my gratitude is just by writing this lame speech... You made us who we are today! we will never forget your hard work! THANK YOU HONG WEI!
Overall, This event gave us unforgettable memories and experience that we'll nevery forget...
Last but not Least, i hereby wish the future cadet team Gud luck!
Don't get me wrong, i'm not dieing or quiting by writing this... just want to speak my mind...
New Class - 4sc4
Thursday, January 17, 2008
16 January 2008 - By not choosing to enter the IT class and Acc. class, i've entered 4sc4, a new class for me with some old friends and of cause, a lot of new friends. It's noisy, i admit... the class is not as good as i think, with a lot of trouble makers in this class. Almost all the straight A's students entered 4sc1 and 4sc2, except for a few students like me who chose pure science. From the beginning of this year until now, my friends keep on asking me why i've not entered IT or Acc. class since my results are good. Well, this is the reasons i think i can answer them. First of all, IT is not something like playing online games or surfing the internet. I've tried many times designing my own webpage with the html codes and making my own games with GameMaker. Until then only I realised that studying IT is not an interesting subject that everybody thinks. Besides that, when u heard the word ACCOUNTS, u know that u don't like that right? Acc. is an extra subject for the 4sc2 students. According to my seniors and my cousins, Acc. is quite boring as it required a lot of calculation. It is not because my mathematics skills is not good but I really don't like an extra subject like maths for me in my SPM. I think thats all I can tell, hope I can cope up with my study this year because it is such a big gap from form 3 to form 4. Thanks for reading and good luck!
PMR results - 8As
Friday, December 28, 2007
27 December 2007 - Today is the day where all the PMR candidates will be getting their PMR examination results. I arrive at school at 10am in the morning. I admit that i'm feeling nervous and scare when i arrive school. I can see the worrying faces of all the form 3 who are waiting for results like me. Around 10.25am, all the students rushed into the hall to get their results, so do I. There are 10 tables infront of the hall representing 10 classes. I can see my class teacher Pn. Hartini sitting infront there. One by one my friends took their results, some are so happy when they get the results and call their parents immediately, but I can see some of them are not satisfied like one of my friend Yoong Xiang. He is the top student in class and in form from form 1 until form 3 but he only manage to get 6As and 1B. I feel sorry for him as I cant do anything but to comfort him. When it is my turn to take my results, sweat is all around my face. Before taking my results, I signed in a paper to verify that i have taken my results. My heart is beating so fast until Pn. Hartini said congratulations to me. I look at my PMR results and saw a line of As, not 7 but 8As because i took extra subject that is Chinese. I'm so happy as I've achieved my dream, not dream anymore! I thought i'll get maybe 6As or 7As but i managed to get 8As. Immediately I sms my parents and my relatives. All of them congrats me. For me, it's an impossible dream to come true!
I Am Legend - Will Smith
Thursday, December 27, 2007
26th December 2007 - The day before PMR results, Tihn Chern asked his classmates out for a movie including me myself, Nakhieeran, Nicholas Chen and Wong Joe Hang. We watched the new movie 'I am Legend'. In 2009, a virus called Krippin Virus spread throughout the world. It is believed that this virus is created as a cure of cancer by Dr. Alice Krippin. There're 90% infected human in the world, 9.8% survive and 0.2% is immune. The infected survivors transform into an agrresive animal state monster which react painfully to UV radiation. They hide in dark places and only come out at night to hunt. Military virologist Robert Neville (Will Smith) is the only healthy survivor in New York City. He has a dog named Samantha or know as Sam in the movie. Sam died in a tragedy when the infected dogs bite him. Later, he meets a women, Anna and her son, Ethan. Near the ending of the movie, Robert sacrifice himself with a hand grenade to defend Anna and Ethan who are hiding in an old coal chute from the terrifying 'dark-seekers'. 'I am Legend' is certainly a movie that u must watch! It has non-stop action and scary moments. I think i will give a 4 out of 5 star to this movie. It deserves it!
NCO Cadet Camp 2007
~~~~~~~~~~~~ The 10 NCO Camp Fasilitators ~~~~~~~~~~~~

6 - 9 Dec 2007 - I joined the NCO Cadet Camp 2007 organized by the headquarter of St. John Ambulance Malaysia Perak Central Area. The camp was held in SMK Sentosa, Kampar, Perak. We went there by bus. There are approximately 132 members joining and 50 organizing team members. There are 10 groups in this camp whose name are based on the 12 horoscope. I'm from group Capricorn and my teammates are Beh Ching Siong (L), Leong Siew Yin (A.L), Leong Weng Siang, Chin Zhee Yuen, Cheah Ying Kang, Wong Jin Yuen, Looi Kar Yee, Chin Choi Hui, Hing Chen Yee, Teoh Ting Yuen and Yeoh Pei Ying. The Camp Commander of the camp is Mr. Lim Jit Theam while the Asst. Camp Commander is Mr. Yow Weng Kit and Ms. Song Ching Ling. Throughout the camp, we've learned alot of new things from our fasilitator, SGT Tean Zi Yong and gained experience. Besides that, this camp also offered us two badges, the CADET CAMP COURSE badge which are given to us for free and the ORDER OF ST JOHN badge. What I can say is 80% of the things we learned here cannot be learned from school. The punishment here is eXtremely less compared to my school. The third day of the camp, we played for the Commando Cross games which consists of 10 station. Later at night, we've our drama/presentation. My team drama's title is Money Love Money (Love Story). The last day of the camp is the day we wont forget. We had our feedback time and awards. The best team goes to group Cancer, the best male camper goes to Tean Zi Yuen, best female camper goes to Cheah Pui Yen and the best leader ..... (forget). I reach HQ by 6pm that day. This signal the end of the camp but the fellowship of our team will never die!
